Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has donated ₦15 million to two educational institutions in Bauchi State — Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences and Intisharu Taufizul Quranic School.
During his visit on Friday, Obi gave ₦10 million to the nursing school and ₦5 million to the Quranic school, describing the gesture as part of his commitment to education and healthcare.
At the Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences, Obi praised nurses as the backbone of the health system.
“You are very important to society and to Nigeria. If there is anything we can do to support you, we must do it. Health is the number one measure of a nation’s success, and you can’t talk about health without talking about human infrastructure — the nurse knows the patient, owns the patient, and is everything,” he said.
Obi revealed that he supports about 70 nursing schools across the country annually, noting that his focus is on societal progress, not politics.
The proprietors of both schools, Aminu Danmaliki and Alhaji Usman Abubakar, thanked Obi for the donation and assured that the funds would be put to good use for the benefit of students and the institutions.
