Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has claimed that former Anambra State governor Peter Obi will neither emerge as the presidential nor vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on The Clarity Zone Podcast, Bwala described Obi as “politically stranded,” arguing that he has lost control of the political structure he built during the 2023 general election and no longer commands influence within Nigeria’s political space. He also noted that Obi-backed candidates performed poorly in subsequent elections, failing to secure electoral victories.
Bwala criticised Obi’s supporters on social media, accusing them of defending Obi’s frequent party switches—from the PDP to APGA, back to PDP, then Labour—while attacking opponents for similar actions. He insisted that Obi would eventually contest the next general election on a platform other than Labour or ADC and predicted that he would garner significantly fewer votes than in 2023.
According to the presidential aide, Obi’s rise was temporary, built on popularity and “make-believe” rather than sustained grassroots support, and he currently lacks the political capacity to lead or coordinate any coalition movement.
