Peter Obi to Tinubu: “You Promised Food, But Nigerians Are Now Hungrier Than Ever”

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has taken a strong swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling out his past campaign promises and the deepening hardship faced by Nigerians under his administration.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Obi referenced a moment during the 2022 campaign trail in Delta State, where Tinubu—then the APC candidate—mocked Obi’s emphasis on data and development statistics.

“Na statistics we go chop? All I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians,” Tinubu had said.

But nearly two years into his four-year tenure, Obi says that very promise has failed—and Nigeria is now battling record levels of hunger and poverty.

“Today, Nigeria ranks among the hungriest nations in the world. Millions of Nigerians don’t know where their next meal will come from,” Obi wrote.

He further accused the President of hiding behind manipulated economic figures instead of confronting reality.

“Now, President Tinubu is overfeeding Nigerians with the wrong statistics—whether it’s about unemployment, inflation, or rebased GDP—just to paint a false picture of improvement, when in truth, household conditions are only getting worse.”

Obi emphasized once again that governance is not trial and error.

“It’s not rocket science or a gamble. Leadership demands sincerity, character, competence, capacity, and compassion,” he said.

He ended his message with his enduring rallying cry:

“A new Nigeria is POssible.”
