THE desperation of embattled former Deputy Governor, Mr Phillip Shaibu and APC Guber Candidate Monday Okpebholo appear to have reached fever pitch as they resort to unleashing a show of terror and violence on innocent Edo citizens today.
Despite a valid Notice of Appeal and Stay of Execution order issued by the Court against Philip Shaibu’s reinstatement yesterday, he was seen on the streets of Benin leading armed thugs to unleash terror and mayhem in a failed attempt to forcefully reinstate himself as Deputy Governor unlawfully.
Peace loving Edo people woke up to Witness chaotic scenes with sporadic gunfire as thugs armed with guns, machetes and other dangerous weapons caused harm on innocent people and commuters. The thugs were part of the entourage of the APC Governorship Candidate Monday Okpebholo and Phillip Shaibu who arrived in Benin on Thursday afternoon on a chartered aircraft.
This despicable show of shame by the embattled former Deputy Governor once again brings to fore his propensity for violence and desperation for power. Their ultimate goal is to cause a breakdown of law and order that will lead to the declaration of State of Emergency in Edo by the APC led Federal Government
Since his impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly, Shaibu has declared his support for the APC Candidate, Monday Okpebholo, in whose company he arrived Benin today. He also handed over his campaign building and vehicles to him. On the other hand, he has continued to engage in multiple failed litigation attempts against PDP and it’s candidate while also trying to get himself reinstated as Deputy Governor.
Today’s actions by his hired thugs clearly show the level of his greed and desperation going to the extent of mobilising thugs to disrupt public peace and cause harm to innocent people all because of politics.
It’s even more shocking that in his desperation, he has ignored a valid and subsisting Court order, a notice of appeal and stay of execution from the same courts that delivered a judgement earlier in his favour.
This type of violence, thuggery by desperate politicians like Shaibu has no place in our politics and must be heavily condemned as we head to the polls.
