Plateau Government Slams Army Over Deadly Attack in Riyom: “Where Were the Soldiers?”

The Plateau State Government don finally open mouth over the tragic attack wey happen for Jebbu Binde village in Riyom Local Government Area on Monday, July 14, 2025 — one wey left over 30 people dead and plenty homes destroyed.

This time, dem no dey keep quiet.

Speaking live on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’ on Friday, Joyce Ramnap, the state’s Commissioner for Information, no hide her frustration. She talk say Nigerian Army wey suppose protect the people, no show up when armed bandits wey be suspected Fulani militias storm the community and operate freely for hours.

“How bandits go dey operate for hours and no single arrest? And to make matters worse, there’s a military checkpoint just about 200 meters away. How e take happen?” she ask sharply.

She explained say the checkpoint dey very close to the village, so the soldiers suppose at least intervene or give backup when the community raise alarm. Instead, the attackers moved freely, causing destruction and death — and no single gunman was caught.

“This place no be hidden. It’s not like na one deep village where nobody fit reach,” Ramnap explained. “Help for don come if dem act fast. So the big question now be — why nothing happened?

She add say the state government no wan generalise blame on the entire Army, but the silence and inaction during the attack don raise serious questions.

“We’re not saying every soldier failed, but honestly, this matter need proper investigation. The governor even ask, ‘How come dem no arrest anybody? What effort una make?’ Because the people dey ask us too.”

Worse still, she say the same attackers still enter farms, burn crops, and destroy people livelihood even after killing their loved ones.

“These killings no get reason. They’re just wicked and unprovoked. People don suffer too much, and now their farms — the only source of survival — dey under attack,” she added.

Ramnap say Governor Caleb Mutfwang no dey take this thing lightly. He don vow to do everything within his power to protect Plateau residents and bring lasting peace.

“We no go fold hand. Plateau people don see enough blood. This time, we must protect them, by all means.”

Right now, the people of Jebbu Binde and nearby communities dey wait to see real action — not just press statements. They need assurance say their lives matter, and that when danger come, security go answer call
