Police Alarm as Suspected Human Remains Found on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway

Operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State have uncovered a disturbing discovery after recovering items suspected to be human remains from a commercial vehicle.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, in Ibadan. According to the police, the discovery was made during a routine stop-and-search operation near Guru Maharaji Village along the expressway.

The statement explained that a commercial vehicle travelling from Lagos to Osogbo was intercepted, and a thorough search led to the recovery of a red cloth containing bones and other items believed to be parts of a human corpse. The items were allegedly hidden among passengers’ luggage.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, was immediately apprehended. Police said investigations have commenced to determine where the items came from and their intended purpose. The command added that the probe has been expanded beyond Oyo State in a bid to track down anyone connected to the incident.

The police assured residents that the case is being handled with professionalism and diligence, stressing their commitment to ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice. Members of the public were also urged to continue cooperating with law enforcement by providing useful and timely information to help maintain security across the state.

In a related development, the police also confirmed a suspected murder at a construction site in the Iyana-Ajia area of Ibadan. The incident was reported at the Akanran Police Division and was said to have followed a disagreement between two casual workers.

During the confrontation, one of the workers, Lawal Ibrahim, aged 22, allegedly attacked his colleague, Raimi Ige, aged 18, who later died while being taken to the hospital. The suspect has been arrested, while the victim’s body has been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

Given the seriousness of the case, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the investigation to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section. Police said the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The command reminded the public that emergencies can be reported through the Oyo State toll-free line 615, or via the police control room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
