Police Assure Safety, Dismiss Fear of Unrest on Third Mainland Bridge

LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents and motorists of adequate security following viral reports alleging plans by some youths to disrupt movement on the Third Mainland Bridge.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 27, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said police operatives have taken proactive measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order, especially around the Oworonshoki axis of the bridge.

“The Command wishes to assure the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order across the state,” Adebisi stated.

According to the police, officers have been fully deployed to ensure the safety of all commuters and to prevent any form of obstruction or unrest. The Command also urged Lagosians to go about their normal activities without panic while cooperating with security agencies.

“The Command remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring the free flow of traffic across Lagos State,” the statement added.

The reassurance comes amid public anxiety over online messages warning of possible protests or blockades on the bridge — one of Nigeria’s busiest routes linking the Mainland and the Island.

The police reaffirmed their readiness to swiftly respond to any threat capable of undermining peace or public safety in Lagos.
