The buzzing nightlife of Lagos took an unexpected turn in the early hours of Sunday when operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) stormed Proxy Nightclub, located in Victoria Island, arresting socialite Pretty Mike, ex-BBNaija star Tuoyo Ideh, and several others.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the raid was based on credible intelligence indicating suspicious activities inside the club. The operation reportedly began around 3 a.m., leading to the arrest of over 100 guests, including the club’s owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu (popularly known as Pretty Mike).
Babafemi explained that NDLEA operatives had earlier infiltrated the club around 11 p.m. on Saturday, discreetly observing events before carrying out the raid. During the operation, prohibited substances were allegedly recovered from guests and the club’s storage area.
He added that all individuals arrested were taken into custody for screening, and those found guilty would face prosecution in line with the law. “This is part of our ongoing effort to sanitize nightlife venues and ensure they do not become safe havens for drug use,” Babafemi said.
The development has sparked mixed reactions online, as many Nigerians expressed shock and disbelief at the involvement of prominent figures like Pretty Mike and Tuoyo. Some users praised NDLEA’s efforts to enforce drug laws, while others questioned the agency’s handling of the situation.
As investigations continue, all eyes remain on the outcome of this high-profile case, which has once again raised questions about the intersection between Nigeria’s entertainment scene and drug culture.
