Private plane: How much does it cost to fly like Friedrich Merz?

If hundreds of flights are canceled this Friday due to the strike by Lufthansa cabin crew, many people returning from vacation, weekend commuters or business travelers will probably have an idea: Wouldn’t having your own plane be the most elegant solution to avoid tariff conflicts, flight cancellations and rebooking hotlines?

The Chancellor also does this privately, i.e. when he is not traveling on the government plane for work. Friedrich Merz is the proud owner of his own aircraft. Although, to be fair, Merz doesn’t have a jet, just a twin-engine Diamond DA62, a propeller plane. You quickly think of island hopping and a picnic basket. With a range of around 2,400 kilometers, the machine is certainly suitable for longer routes in Europe, but not for the route from Frankfurt to Singapore.
