Report: Investigation outlines alleged foiled plot involving military officers

Fresh details from an interim investigation report cited by Nigerian media describe an alleged plot that was disrupted by security agencies before it could materialise. The report references the arrest of 16 officers for indiscipline and breaches of military regulations following weeks of quiet tension within the armed forces.

According to the findings, a serving colonel is said to be at the centre of the suspicions. Investigators believe he gradually built a discreet network involving officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, with personal career frustrations reportedly contributing to the informal recruitment process.

Sources quoted in the report state that some members allegedly studied sensitive locations, including government facilities and airports, to observe access routes and routines. What may have begun as internal grievances reportedly evolved into early-stage operational thinking.

Searches are said to have uncovered documents considered sensitive, alongside items and materials viewed as suspicious. Investigators are also reviewing unusual financial movements, including transfers ranging from ₦2 million to ₦5 million to certain key actors, now under analysis by financial intelligence authorities.

One officer, described as a key witness, reportedly provided insight into the group’s communication methods and funding channels. Officials note that the most concerning element was the alleged cross-service reach of the network, spanning different ranks and branches.

The investigation was reportedly concluded ahead of a supposed execution date mentioned as October 25, 2025. Reports have been forwarded to higher authorities, and the implicated personnel are expected to face internal military judicial panels, according to defence officials.
