Restriction Order: Kano Will Soon Be Free Of Armed Robbery, Phone Snatching – Dan’agundi

THE Managing Director Kano State Road Transport Agency (KAROTA)Dr Baffa Babba Da’agundi has said that the state government would soon be free of Armed Robbery, Phone snatching and other related vices following the restriction order placed on trycylists across the state.

Dr Dan’agundi made the disclosure while addressing News men in the State Capital yesterday over the impact of the restriction order placed in the state for Trycyclists to work between 6am to 10 am at Night and close for the day.

The KAROTA Managing Director who doubles as the Acting MD Kano Consumer Protection Agency said the level of crimes observed before the imposition of such order had drastically reduced as a result of the new strategy adopted by the state government.

” Kano had in the wake of frequent hues and cries on the cases of overnight robbery, house burglary, phone snatchings and other Social Vices, which prompted the government to restrict the operations of Tricycles Operators from 6am to 10pm.

Although the restrictions had in the beginning caused serious confusion amongst Citizens who largely depends on the Tricycles for their free movements, however now believed that, it has served the purpose.”

He said, “although our checks indicated that large number of Tricycles Operators are People of descent background who conduct their activities within the ambits of the law, but for the few ones among them who have created bad images to the brisk business in the state”.

Baffa Dan’agundi, explained further that, those few ones are responsible for different crimes in the state.

He said, “too many complaints were lodged to the Government on the rising insecurity in the state specifically at night.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to meet with Security agencies and after thorough investigation, it shows that crimes were largely committed using the Tricycles as a cover.

“That was how we agreed that there should be restrictions between 10pm to 6am and anybody who is found wanting should be dealt with accordingly, and this had resulted in many of them relocating to other states”

The Managing Director added that, Government had already provided alternative to the restrictions while other transporters of Taxis and Buses were encouraged to replace the Tricycles Operators between that hours.

Baffa commended Kano people for cooperating with the state government and Security operatives on the restrictions, order and hoped that the tempo should be maintained.
