The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed strong opposition to the State House of Assembly’s decision to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.
The impeachment process, which began on Thursday, stems from alleged misconduct, with the notice expected to be formally served to the governor and his deputy within the next seven days.
Reacting to the development, Rivers APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, condemned the move, describing it as baseless and politically motivated. “Our position as at today on this matter is that we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” Nwauju said.
He warned that the party would not remain silent if attempts to destabilise the APC-led government in Rivers State are allowed to continue. “It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface in our great party. We will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilised,” he added.
The development signals a growing tension between the State House of Assembly and the APC leadership as political maneuvering intensifies in Rivers State.
