Jake Epelle, Chief Executive Officer of TAF Africa, has strongly condemned the just-concluded local government elections in Rivers State, dismissing the exercise as nothing short of a “democratic scam.”
Speaking on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme, Epelle described the polls as unconstitutional and a betrayal of the people’s trust, despite being conducted under a democratically elected government.
“It’s unfortunate that we’re living in such politically interesting times. What happened in Rivers State on Saturday was nothing but political manoeuvring—an unprecedented sham that looks every bit like a democratic scam,” he said.
Epelle stressed that the entire process lacked legality, insisting that everything about the election was “totally illegal and unconstitutional.” He noted that the people of Rivers are enlightened and civilised, and warned that those in power may have expected violent protests.
“I called on the youth not to fall into their trap. What we saw is a slap in the face of Rivers people, and we cannot continue this way,” he added firmly.
