Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has strongly condemned the ongoing Rivers State local government elections, alleging that the outcome was already decided before the polls even ended.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) had conducted the elections across the state’s 23 local government areas on Saturday. As of now, results are still being collated at the commission’s center in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Despite the process not being officially concluded, reports suggest that candidates loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, are already projected to sweep through with victories.
Reacting to this, Adeyanju took to Facebook to express his displeasure, describing the entire exercise as a sham. According to him, the results being declared were simply “written down and announced,” with no real voting integrity. He added that the situation is “beyond laughable” since no one even attempted to resist or challenge the questionable process.
