Sanwo-Olu Vows Continued Investment in Safety, Infrastructure for Stronger Lagos Communities
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to investing in programmes aimed at making communities safer, more accessible, and prepared for sustainable growth.
He spoke on Thursday during the 2025 Annual Community Day Celebration at the Police College, Ikeja — held under the theme “From Strength to Impact: Deepening Community Resilience.” Represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu said his government ensures no community is left behind in the quest for a greater Lagos.
“We have continued to invest in initiatives that make our communities safer, more accessible, and better equipped for sustainable development,” he said, adding that the administration wants every resident to thrive in an economically vibrant and structurally supportive society where business and daily life flourish.
The governor reiterated his commitment to partnering with Community Development Associations (CDAs), pledging ongoing support to empower grassroots communities. He underscored that CDAs remain indispensable partners whose self-help projects and community-driven initiatives align with the government’s vision for a better Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the launch of the Office of Rural Development, a body that has spearheaded major rural advancement projects including road rehabilitation, electrification, water supply, security upgrades, and other essential infrastructure — all in pursuit of building inclusive, resilient and thriving communities across the state.
Mr. Okanlawon Sanni, Chair of the Lagos Assembly Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, promised continued legislative backing for rural progress. He described the Community Day programme as a demonstration of shared commitment to grassroots development and improved community life across Lagos.
Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje, Special Adviser on Rural Development, said the event is a celebration of unity, sacrifice, and the self-help spirit driving development in Lagos communities. He added that under the THEMES+ Agenda, progress remains anchored on collaboration, innovation, and collective responsibility.
