Segun Dada Warns Critics Celebrating Buhari’s Death: “We Won’t Forget”

Segun Dada, the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, has issued a stern warning to individuals who have taken to celebrating the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, especially those mocking him online and offline.

His reaction follows the circulation of a now-viral video showing a group of people in northern Nigeria dancing and rejoicing after the news of Buhari’s passing broke. The video sparked widespread outrage and debate across social media platforms.

Dada, in a post on his verified account, didn’t mince words. He said that such reactions were not only distasteful but a deep insult to millions who respected and admired Buhari across the North and beyond.

“You may be dancing now, but we will not forget,” he wrote, adding that Buhari’s legacy—good or bad—should be approached with dignity, not mockery.

“The North remembers. And so do people across this country who loved and respected him. Insulting a man who served as president—even after death—is a reflection of who you are, not him.”

While the online space continues to reflect polarised opinions about Buhari’s leadership, many have called for restraint, urging Nigerians to allow the late president rest in peace and let history pass its judgment.

Buhari died at the age of 82 while receiving treatment in London. Plans are currently underway for his burial in Daura, Katsina State.
