Senate Confirms Christopher Musa as Defence Minister After Intense Grilling

The Senate has officially confirmed former Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

Musa’s confirmation came on Wednesday following a five-hour screening, during which lawmakers rigorously questioned his plans and qualifications. The session grew tense when some senators opposed a suggestion to excuse him from detailed questioning.

Senator Sani Musa of Niger East had proposed that the nominee “take a bow and go,” but the Senate rejected the idea, insisting on a thorough vetting. After the exhaustive session, Musa secured the approval needed to lead the Defence Ministry.

The confirmation marks a key moment for President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle and comes amid heightened scrutiny of Nigeria’s security leadership.
