THE Senate on Thursday constituted a 20-member committee, headed by the Senate Leader, Senate Opeyemi Bamidele
The decision followed a resolution to organise a national summit on security to address the persistent security challenges in the country,
Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC Kebbi North) would serve as the vice chairman and Mr.Rawlimgs Agada, interim Clerk Senate is Clerk of the Summit Committee and head Secretariat.
Other members of the committee are Senators Ireti Kingibe (LP FCT), Idiat Adebule (APC Lagos West), Barinada Mpigi (PDP Rivers), Babangida Hussaini (APC Jigawa North West), Jimoh Ibrahim (APC Ondo South), Osita Ngwu (PDP Enugu), Tahir Monguno (APC Borno North), Titus Zam (APC Benue), Ahmed Lawan (APC Yobe North), and Abdulaziz Yar’adua (APC Katsina Central).
The rest are Senators Gbenga Daniel (APC Ogun East), Austin Akobundu (Abia), Shehu Buba (Bauchi), Ahmed Madori (Jigawa), Emmanuel Udende (Benue), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Shuaib Salisu (Ogun), Isah Jibrin (Kogi)
Announcing the committee during the plenary after a majority voice vote of the senators approved the Summit, Akpabio explained that the committee would plan the security summit.
He noted that their primary objective was to design the framework for the proposed national summit, including the agenda, identifying key discussion points, and proposing actionable strategies to effectively tackle Nigeria’s security lapses.
The Senate President directed the committee to submit its report within two weeks.
Akpabio also appointed the interim Clerk of the Senate, Mr Rawlings Agada as Clerk of the Special Security Summit Committee and Head of the Secretariat
