The Senator representing Nasarawa North, Godiya Akwashiki, has passed away at the age of 52 after a prolonged illness. A family source confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria that the senator died on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at a hospital in India.
Akwashiki’s passing has been described as a significant loss, leaving a vacuum in the senatorial zone due to his dedication to development projects and empowerment initiatives for his constituents. “Since in the history of Nasarawa North, Sen. Akwashiki was the best Senator ever produced, due to his purposeful leadership,” the source said.
During his tenure, Akwashiki was noted for ensuring that his projects reached all parts of the constituency and for winning a second term, making him the only senator from the zone to do so. Before his election to the Nigerian Senate in 2019, he served as Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nasarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State, Akwashiki is remembered for his commitment to public service and lasting impact on his community.
