I extend my warmest congratulations to Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), on the occasion of his 65th birthday.
Dr. Adesina is a visionary leader whose unwavering commitment to Africa’s economic transformation has set new benchmarks for excellence in governance, innovation, and sustainable development. From his tenure as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development to his trailblazing leadership at the AfDB, he has been a catalyst for progress, championing policies that uplift the poor, drive inclusive growth, and position Africa for global competitiveness.
Under his stewardship, the AfDB has witnessed historic achievements, including an unprecedented increase in its capital base from $93 billion in 2015 to $318 billion—an extraordinary feat that speaks to his economic foresight, strategic diplomacy, and financial acumen. His dedication to empowering African nations through infrastructure, agriculture, and industrial development continues to inspire a new generation of leaders committed to the continent’s prosperity.
As Dr. Adesina marks this milestone, I join his family, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating a remarkable statesman and technocrat. May he continue to enjoy good health, divine wisdom, and the strength to steer Africa towards even greater heights.
