Shehu Sani: North and South-West Gained Most Under Buhari, Tinubu – Ignore the Noise

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, is pushing back against rising claims that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is sidelining the North. In a post shared on Friday via X (formerly Twitter), Sani stated clearly that the regions that have gained the most from political appointments and federal projects — both under Buhari and now Tinubu — are the North-West and South-West.

He noted that it’s misleading to suggest the North is being neglected, calling such narratives “deliberate distortions.”

“Under the immediate past and present administration, the North West and South West regions are the highest beneficiaries of political appointments and projects,” Sani wrote. “The match is not yet half time, wait for more goals or penalties.”

His comments come in the heat of a larger national conversation around equity in governance, sparked by remarks from Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Political Adviser to Tinubu. Baba-Ahmed had reminded critics that the North has historically supported Southern presidential candidates — citing the 1993 election when MKO Abiola was preferred over a fellow Northerner, Bashir Tofa.

Sani’s remarks are a call for patience and perspective, suggesting that judgment should be reserved until Tinubu’s administration fully unfolds.
