A tragic incident unfolded at a school in Russia on Tuesday after a 10-year-old pupil was stabbed to death by an older student, prompting swift action from security agencies.
Local police confirmed that the attack took place in Gorki-2, a village in the Odintsovo district west of Moscow. According to a statement shared on Telegram, officers received reports that a student had first stabbed a security guard, used pepper spray, and then attacked the young pupil, who later died from the injury.
Authorities said the suspect was quickly apprehended and is currently in custody. Russia’s Investigative Committee later identified the attacker as a 15-year-old student, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the violence.
“The motive for the crime is being determined,” the committee said, confirming that a formal criminal probe has been opened.
While such incidents were once rare in Russia, attacks in schools have become increasingly frequent in recent years. In 2024, a teenage student injured four people with a hammer in Chelyabinsk, while in December 2023, a 14-year-old girl opened fire at a school in Bryansk, killing a classmate.
The latest incident has reignited concerns over school safety and youth violence, as authorities continue efforts to understand and prevent such tragic occurrences.
