Soludo Caps Traffic Fines at ₦10,000 to Ease Burden on Motorists

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has introduced a new traffic policy limiting all traffic offence fines in the state to a maximum of ₦10,000. The decision, he said, is aimed at protecting motorists from excessive charges and curbing extortion by enforcement officers.

Before now, many motorists in the state had lamented paying as much as ₦50,000 for minor infractions—a practice Governor Soludo openly condemned. He made the announcement during a mega rally at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha, organized by transport stakeholders who endorsed his second-term bid.

“Starting from October 14, 2025, the maximum fine payable for any traffic offence in the state will be capped at ₦10,000, regardless of the nature of the offence,” the governor declared. He added that the policy reflects his administration’s commitment to fair governance and sensitivity to the current economic challenges faced by citizens.

Soludo stressed the need to balance law enforcement with empathy, pledging to establish a special task force to clamp down on illegal tax collectors. “Anyone collecting cash must remit it directly to government coffers,” he warned, revealing that proper bus stops with clear markings would soon be designated by the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA).

Highlighting transportation as the backbone of Anambra’s economy, Soludo noted his administration’s record-breaking road projects within four years. “This is just the beginning of Anambra’s development,” he said.

Commissioner for Transportation, Barr. Patricia Igwebuike, commended the initiative, describing the transport sector as central to household livelihoods. She also praised the alignment of transportation with the state’s maritime and aviation goals.

Other officials, including OCHA Brigade MD Celestine Anere, ARTMA boss Emeka Okonkwo, and Transport Company MD Chike Obiakor, lauded the reforms, particularly the elimination of touting and digitization of tax collection. They pledged full support for Soludo’s re-election, calling themselves his “foot soldiers” ahead of the November 8 gubernatorial election.
