Controversial Nigerian activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has publicly accused a staff member of the Nigeria Police Force of stealing his AI smart glasses during a protest held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Sowore had led a group of police retirees in a large-scale protest demanding improved pension benefits. The demonstration, which took place at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, was widely covered by the media.
However, shortly after the protest concluded, Sowore reported that his Ray-Ban AI smart glasses had gone missing. Surveillance footage reportedly showed a man pulling the glasses off his face during the event.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Sahara Reporters publisher identified the alleged culprit as Aku Victor Chiemere, who he claimed is a staff cameraman attached to the office of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi.
“Yesterday, during the historic #PoliceProtest at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, Aku Victor Chiemere, a staff cameraman under the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, stole my Ray-Ban AI smart glasses,” Sowore wrote.
He further accused CSP Adejobi of complicity, describing the incident as a deliberate act orchestrated under official cover. “This act is not only criminal, it is a reprehensible criminal behavior orchestrated by a senior police officer,” he said.
Sowore is demanding that his property be returned immediately and is calling for the prosecution of both Chiemere and CSP Adejobi on charges of theft, conspiracy, and official misconduct.
As of now, the Nigeria Police Force has not released an official statement addressing the accusation. The development has sparked mixed reactions online, with some questioning the security lapses that allowed the incident to occur during a high-profile protest at the heart of the country’s police command.
