STAKEHOLDERS in the College of Medicine, Ambrose Ali University (AAU), Ekpoma are disenchanted over the fraudulent push by some power brokers in AAU to illegally award PhD degree to one Mr Uwuigbe Mathew without the completion of his program.
Senior Professors in the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science have cried out to relevant authorities and the University Governing Council to stop the clandestine moves by powerful elements in the university who have been pushing seriously against the laid-down rules guiding the university post graduate programs to illegally award a PhD degree.
Sources informed Trojaninsights.com that Mr Uwuigbe Mathew did not meet the requirements, even when the external supervisor has written officially to state that Mr Mathew Uwuigbe has not satisfied all the conditions both at the faculty and postgraduate school level to warrant the award of the Ph.D. degree.
“It is on record that the immediate past Provost College of Medicine, Prof GBS Iyalomhe practically threatened the HOD of Histopathology, Mr Bankole to comply with their illegal moves or face his wrath, while he was still in office as the henchman of the College of Medicine in AAU”, our sources stated.
Mr JK Bankole, (HOD Histopathology Department) had reportedly stood his ground, saying the rules should not be skewed or bent to award a fraudulent PhD degree to Mr Uwuigbe Mathew who carried out hatchet jobs for the immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyi.
Under Governor Godwin Obaseki’s ignoble 8-Year of Misrule, Mr. Uwuigbe Mathew was said to have infamously and singlehandedly disrupted several ASUU meetings in the university while fighting payment of salary arrears and sundry issues.
The sources alleged that the cabal wants to compensate Mr Uwuigbe with this fraudulent PhD reward as a former compensation for carrying dirty jobs for the immediate past administration of the university.
The national body of Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria has warned that awarding an illegal PhD will spell doom for the faculty of Medical Laboratory Science and it will dent the image of the university.
“It is on record that the faculty of Medical Laboratory Science is already bedeviled with myriad of challenges ranging from inability to graduate her students for the past three years.
“The university management should not pressurize Prof. Okogun (The Dean Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science) to clear Mr Mathew Uwuigbe who has not fulfilled the faculty requirements and, as such, can’t be cleared to be awarded the said Ph.D degree,” our sources stated further.
“The University vice chancellor should rise up to the occasion and prevent fraudulent elements in the immediate past administration who are hell bent on carrying out fraudulent transactions under the present administration.
Our sources concluded that Mr Mathew Uwuigbe performed very poorly in his master’s program, where he scored 50, that is, grade C, which automatically disqualifies him for gaining direct admission into the Ph.D. program.
“He was smuggled into the Ph.D program through the back door without fulfilling the requirements spelled out by the postgraduate school for admission into the PhD program; as such, he can not be awarded PhD degree,” our sources charged.
