“Stop the Bloodshed, Not the Voices”: Timi Frank Slams Kenya’s Ruto Over Protest Killings

Outspoken political activist and former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Timi Frank, has strongly condemned the violent crackdown on protesters in Kenya, describing the killings as a brutal stain on democracy.

Frank, in a statement released Tuesday, reacted to CNN’s report confirming that at least 11 unarmed demonstratorswere killed by Kenyan security forces during nationwide protests. The protests, which coincided with the 35th anniversary of the Saba Saba uprising—a historic day in Kenya’s democratic journey—turned tragic as citizens took to the streets to express dissatisfaction with government policies and were met with live bullets.

“This is barbaric, and totally unacceptable in any system that calls itself democratic,” Frank said, calling directly on President William Ruto to “immediately rein in his security agencies and stop the bloodshed.”

Frank, who has consistently used his voice to spotlight injustice across Africa, described the slain protesters as “heroes who died fighting for a better Kenya”, and offered his condolences to the grieving families. “They stood up for the future of their country. Their names must not be forgotten,” he said.

He also called for the unconditional release of all detained protesters, urging Kenyan authorities to uphold the rule of law instead of trampling on basic human rights.

But his rebuke didn’t stop at Nairobi. In a surprising turn, Timi Frank appealed to former U.S. President Donald Trump and the United Nations, asking them to step in and pressure President Ruto to end what he described as “dictatorial behaviour.”

“It is wrong to kill protesters. The government’s role is to protect, not persecute,” Frank stated. “When Trump faced protests, they didn’t send out tanks or bullets—they protected the protesters. That’s what real democracy looks like.”

His words echo growing frustration among African youth, many of whom see democratic backsliding in countries that once promised hope and freedom.

As Kenya mourns, voices like Timi Frank’s are amplifying the call: Respect the people, stop the killings, and let democracy breathe.
