Super Eagles Arrive Safely in Uyo After Mid-Air Scare on Return from South Africa

The Super Eagles have safely arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, after their chartered flight suffered a mid-air scare that forced an emergency return to Luanda, Angola, on Saturday morning.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the team’s aircraft—en route from Polokwane, South Africa, to Uyo—developed a cracked windscreen shortly after takeoff from Angola, where it had stopped to refuel. The pilot, maintaining calm professionalism, quickly redirected the flight back to Luanda Airport, ensuring the safety of everyone on board.

No injuries were reported, and emergency arrangements were immediately activated. The NFF confirmed that another aircraft was dispatched from Lagos to transport the team safely to Uyo. The flight touched down at Victor Attah International Airport at exactly 8:05 a.m. on Sunday.

Although the incident delayed the team’s arrival, relief and gratitude greeted the Super Eagles’ safe landing. The focus has now shifted to their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic, which many fans and analysts have tagged a “must-win” game for Nigeria’s qualification hopes.

With spirits lifted and safety assured, the Super Eagles are expected to resume training in Uyo as they prepare to redeem their campaign with a confident performance on matchday.
