Suspected Armed Robbers Attack Police, Injure Bystander in Ondo

Suspected armed robbers attacked operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol at Ipele Junction in Owo, Ondo State, leaving two police officers and a female bystander injured. According to a police source, three gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire while the officers were performing their duties, prompting the operatives to repel the attack.

The victims, including a woman identified as Taiwo, were immediately rushed to a hospital and are receiving medical attention. State police spokesperson Jimoh Abayomi confirmed that one suspect, Nwabali, has been arrested, and the motorcycle used in the attack recovered. The suspect has provided statements aiding ongoing investigations.

Abayomi added that the state police commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the attack as tragic and reprehensible, while commending the highway patrol operatives for their bravery and swift response that prevented further loss of life. The commissioner assured residents that the police remain committed to apprehending all perpetrators and enforcing the law.
