In an inspiring show of integrity, a senior SWAT officer in Akwa Ibom State, CSP Ebong Thompson, has rejected an N800,000 bribe offered to derail justice in an armed robbery case. The bribe was presented to secure the release of 53-year-old David Samuel Isaac, a repeat offender linked to a stolen Samsung phone traced back to him.
According to police spokesperson Timfon John, the attempted bribery happened on July 30, 2025. Isaac had previously been arrested for similar crimes and returned to criminal activity shortly after his release. His associate, Emmanuel Mendie Peter, was arrested at the SWAT office while attempting to deliver the bribe.
Rather than look the other way, CSP Thompson reported the incident, leading to the arrest of the second suspect and commendations for all officers involved. The Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, praised the team for upholding ethical standards and reminded officers to resist compromise at all costs.
This act of courage has sparked public applause and serves as a rare but powerful reminder that honour still lives within the force.
