Tears for Our Heroes: Tinubu Mourns Soldiers Killed in Boko Haram Attack in Borno

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of soldiers from the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, who were killed during a coordinated terrorist attack on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State. The tragic incident, confirmed by the Defence Headquarters, occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026.

In his reaction, the President paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the fallen soldiers, noting that they fought bravely to repel the attackers and prevent Boko Haram from overrunning nearby communities. He described their actions as heroic, emphasizing that their sacrifice would never be forgotten by the nation.

President Tinubu also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and the Nigerian military, urging them to remain strong despite the painful loss. He specifically acknowledged the leadership of Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, under whom the troops served, describing their deaths as a great loss to the country.

While mourning, the President encouraged troops on the frontline not to lose morale. According to him, recent military offensives have significantly weakened insurgent groups, and the attack reflects what he described as “a sign of desperation” from the terrorists. He reassured the armed forces of the government’s continued support, including improved welfare and provision of necessary equipment.

The President also called on Nigerians and the media to stand firmly behind the military, urging citizens not to glorify or downplay attacks on security personnel. He stressed that the soldiers risking their lives daily are national heroes who deserve respect, support, and remembrance.

Extending his condolences further, Tinubu sympathised with the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with state authorities to achieve lasting peace and total victory over insurgency in the region.
