The people of Afghanistan have been thrown into mourning after a powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake ripped through the eastern provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar. Entire villages were flattened, families torn apart, and dreams buried beneath rubble. Officials confirm that at least 610 lives were lost in Kunar and 12 more in Nangarhar, while over 1,500 survivors are nursing injuries.
Helicopters shuttled through the skies as rescuers desperately pulled survivors from the ruins of three razed villages in Kunar. Military teams carried out more than 40 flights, transporting both the wounded and the dead in what has become a heartbreaking race against time.
This disaster is now Afghanistan’s deadliest earthquake since June 2022, when over 1,000 people perished. Yet, beyond the numbers lies a harsher reality — a nation already struggling with hunger, poverty, and dwindling international aid now faces another mountain of pain without the reassurance of global support.
