Tension Deepens as Army Backs Ex-Naval Chief, Yerima amid Fresh Allegations Linking Wike to Land Grabbing Scandal

Public attention has once again turned to former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, after controversial social commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM) reignited discussions over an alleged land-grabbing scandal involving the late Colonel Ogbebor.

According to resurfaced claims, Wike allegedly seized lands belonging to the late officer during his time as governor, redistributing them to close associates. The matter, which had long been dormant, reportedly stirred emotions among sections of the military, with sources suggesting that some officers have been quietly waiting for a chance to “get their pound of flesh.”

The controversy gained fresh traction online after VeryDarkMan spotlighted the case in a recent video, alleging that Wike not only grabbed Ogbebor’s property but also allocated large hectares of land to his children and loyalists. The activist’s remarks have since triggered heated debates across social media platforms, drawing both criticism and support.

Political observers say the renewed attention may have emboldened certain military figures, including supporters of the former Chief of Naval Staff and Yerima, who reportedly feel Wike’s actions in the past went unchecked. “It’s no surprise the Army seems to be standing with them now,” a source familiar with the situation told reporters.

However, Wike’s supporters have dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, describing them as “a recycled smear campaign” aimed at damaging his growing influence at the federal level. They insist that all land allocations made under his administration followed due process and were properly documented.

As of press time, Wike and his media team have not issued any public response to the revived claims, while efforts to reach the Nigerian Army for comments were unsuccessful.

Analysts believe this controversy may not fade soon, as both political actors and online voices continue to dig into Wike’s past decisions — and the divide between his allies and critics appears to be deepening by the day.
