A dramatic turn of events has unfolded in the ongoing Edo by-election in Iguobazuwa.
A Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Leader, identified as a former chairman of Ovia South West Local Government Area, Hon Destiny Enabulele has been allegedly beaten by some angry ally of the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon. Denis Idahosa.
The incident, according to eye witness happened at Iguobazuwa in ovia south West Local Government Area, during the electoral by-election in Edo State.
Witnesses claimed the situation quickly turned chaotic, after he was attacked before some police officers who later intervened to rescue him.
According to witnesses, his attack was said to have been orchestrated by the Chairman, Edo State Sport Council, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele popularly addressed as bishop.
In a message made available to Journalists, Hon Destiny Enabulele, disclosed that, “At about 6: am this morning,the DSS came to my Father’s house with the intention of Harassing and intimidating PDP members. After an altercation with them and intervention, they left”.
According to the statement, “My attack, after casting my vote, the same DSS and Dennis Idahosa’s boy Desmond Enabulele invaded my polling unit with the intention to kill me. They made away with my Samsung Fold phone, three ATM cards and three hundred thousand Naira cash”.
Reacting to the allegations through a telephone conversation, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele denied the accusation, saying “it is laughable and i was not there. People have been calling me over the incident and I don’t know anything about it”. I don’t vote in that unit. He is in Iguobazuwa East and i am in the West and i don’t vote in that ward.
Hon. Destiny Enabulele is reported to be in the custody of the secrete police despite no confirmation of his custody by them as at the time of filing this report.
However, the incident has raised concerns about the conduct of the election and the potential for violence despite the peace accord signed recently.
With the police pre-election inviting all stakeholders to sign peace accord, the recent attack is a proof that the Police authority has no total grip on those who are seen by the people as above the law that will never obey any pact signed making the efforts of the police authority fruitless and need action to create confidence.
This incident highlights the tensions and challenges surrounding the Edo by-election. The outcome of the election and the actions taken by authorities will be closely watched.
