Fear and grief swept through Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State after armed men attacked two unsuspecting residents on the Margif–Kopmur Road. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, left one young man dead on the spot and another battling for survival.
The victims, identified as Michael Lontukun from Njin Kopmur village and Stephen David from nearby Kopmur, were going about their morning when gunfire shattered the silence. Eyewitnesses said the attackers offered no warning before opening fire. “Lontukun d!ed instantly, while David sustained gunshot injuries,” security analyst Zagazola Makama reported.
Soldiers of the Nigerian Army and officers of the Special Task Force swiftly responded, combing the area and securing the scene. David, critically wounded, was rushed to the General Hospital in Horop, where doctors are fighting to keep him alive. Meanwhile, Lontukun’s grieving family declined an autopsy and took his body home for burial — a moment of finality they never expected so soon.
For the communities of Mushere West and Margif Ward, the attack is more than a headline. It is a reminder of how quickly ordinary lives can be shattered, how insecurity continues to stalk innocent people, and how families are left mourning without answers. The villagers now live with fresh fears, wondering when the violence will end and whether justice will ever be served.
