Kwara State – Tension is mounting in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area, after terrorists reportedly killed two of four rice farmers abducted on Wednesday. Residents, already on edge from repeated attacks, described the killings as devastating.
A local source told SaharaReporters, “Out of the four kidnapped victims from Bokungi yesterday, two have been reportedly killed,” adding that families of the victims were left devastated. The fate of the remaining two farmers remains uncertain, as the kidnappers have not made contact with the community or security agencies.
The latest incident has intensified fears among villagers, with many now hesitant to return to their farms—a development that could worsen the fragile local economy. Residents are calling on security forces and the state government to urgently step up operations to prevent further loss of lives.
This attack follows another recent assault in Kwara, where gunmen abducted four rice farmers just 24 hours after a church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, was attacked. Sources said the attackers struck swiftly while the farmers were harvesting rice, surrounding them before whisking them away into nearby bushlands.
Community members lament that Edu LGA is becoming increasingly deserted during harvest periods, as farmers fear for their safety amid escalating insecurity.
