President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for a two-nation working visit to Japan and Brazil, with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the trip, which began on Thursday, August 14, will see the President participate in high-profile diplomatic and economic engagements.
In Japan, Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22. With the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, the conference will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, improved business environments, and stronger institutional frameworks through private investment and innovation.
The Nigerian leader will join plenary sessions, engage in bilateral meetings, and interact with Japanese CEOs whose companies have investments in Nigeria. Initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, AU Commission, and World Bank, TICAD fosters strategic dialogue between Africa and development partners.
After TICAD9, Tinubu will head to Brasilia, Brazil, for a state visit from August 24 to 25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. His itinerary includes a bilateral meeting, participation in a business forum with Brazilian investors, and the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding to deepen cooperation between both nations.
