Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, has reaffirmed that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to the welfare and long-term development of Nigerian children, despite mounting national security and economic pressures.
Speaking at UNICEF’s World Children’s Day celebration in Abuja, Bagudu expressed confidence that Nigerian children still have a promising future. His remarks come in the wake of Monday’s abduction of students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.
Bagudu said President Tinubu has consistently pushed for stronger investments in teacher training, child development, and education. “I want to assure our children that despite the challenge of the moment, a great future lies ahead of them. We want them to be better than all of us,” he said. He called for prayers for abducted children and urged global leaders to treat child abductions as attacks on humanity requiring collective action.
First Lady: Respect for Children’s Rights Builds a Fairer Society
In her message marking World Children’s Day 2025, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu emphasised the importance of protecting children’s rights and listening to their voices. The theme for this year’s celebration—“Listen to Children: My Day, My Rights”—highlights the need for children to freely express their hopes and concerns.
She noted that children are not merely future leaders but active contributors to shaping society. “Respecting children’s rights and protecting them are essential for building a fair and compassionate society,” she said. Mrs. Tinubu urged Nigerians to recommit themselves to creating a safe and nurturing environment where every child can thrive, dream, and reach their full potential.
