Tinubu Says Economy Has “Bounced Back” as Ibadan Welcomes New Olubadan

President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that Nigeria’s economy had “bounced back” and was on the path of growth and prosperity, despite widespread complaints of hardship, hunger, and inflation across the country. He made the remarks while addressing dignitaries and residents of Oyo State during the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

Tinubu told the gathering that Nigeria had survived the threat of economic collapse and was now entering a recovery phase. He compared the hardship Nigerians are currently facing to the painful process of surgery, insisting that the reforms would eventually produce long-term gains.

“To many of you here present, I am honoured and proud to share the cheering news that the economy has turned the corner. There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. “Your suffering is the pain of a painful surgery. But it is now giving way to growth and prosperity waiting for us ahead. Thank you for your perseverance. Thank you for your endurance.”

Meanwhile, Oba Ladoja, who officially received his staff of office as the new Olubadan, used the occasion to call on the President to create Ibadan State before 2027. Speaking in Yoruba, he said his people had sent him with that message as their top priority.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde also spoke at the historic event, describing Oba Ladoja’s coronation as a moment of pride for the ancient city. “It is a great honour to celebrate the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The joy and excitement that fill Ibadan today remind us of the importance of upholding our cherished traditions,” Makinde said.
