Tinubu Would Defeat Jonathan in 2027, Win Over 32 States – Rep Leke Abejide

Leke Abejide, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise, says President Bola Tinubu would secure a sweeping victory if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on the Mic On podcast with Seun Okinbaloye on Saturday, the lawmaker representing Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State predicted Tinubu could win in more than 32 states, losing only in a few southeastern strongholds.

“My prayer is that they should run like that — on different political platforms — and Asiwaju will win 32 states,” Abejide said. “He may lose maybe Anambra and Abia, but he will win Ebonyi; he may even win more than 32 states.”

There has been growing speculation that Jonathan, who served as president from 2010 to 2015, could make a comeback in 2027. Jonathan, however, lost his re-election bid to the late Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

Abejide cautioned against Jonathan’s return, arguing that Tinubu’s popularity and the current state of infrastructure and security in some parts of the country would give him an edge.

“I just came from Kano; I was there on Wednesday and spent the night. I drove to Kaduna yesterday morning — no insecurity, the road is very good — then I came by train to Abuja this morning. I can tell you, people are happy,” he said.
