Tinubu’s Fuel Subsidy Removal: A Year Of Economy Turmoil (Part 10), By Erasmus Ikhide

THIS would probably be my last take on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s fuel subsidy debilitating removal, except that it has now incurred and ignited looming hunger protest. The protest is scheduled to commence between August 1-10 next month and is going to be a stark pointer to the country’s deteriorating economic tragedy.

While comparisons can be drawn with the protests in Kenya, which has also been grappling with economic challenges, the situation in Nigeria appears more dire. Nigerian youths have taken to social media to mobilize and spread awareness about the upcoming protest, using flyers and hashtags to rally support. The protests come as a response to the country’s economic woes, which have only worsened since Tinubu came to power.

A quick fact-check on Google on 10 best governed countries in Africa props up shocking revelation as Nigeria is conspicuously missing from the lots. In the last 10 years, APC government under President Mohammadu Buhari and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria has recceded abysmally as one of the worst governed countries on earth, a fact APC/Tinubu’s bootleakers keep denying with every blood in their vein.

Here are the top 10 best-governed countries in Africa. Mauritius. Recognized as the best-governed country in Africa, it boasts a high human development index (HDI) score and a strong and functional government. Seychelles. With a high HDI score and a robust economy, Seychelles is considered one of the most developed and well-governed countries in Africa. Closely followed is Namibia. Namibia is placed closely to Mauritius in terms of governance and Namibia boasts a high HDI score and a strong economy.

The next is Botswana. Despite facing some governance issues, Botswana remains committed to its constitution and is considered one of the most politically stable countries in Africa. Then Ghana with a high HDI score and a robust economy. Ghana is considered one of the best-governed countries in Africa. Cabo Verde came close to Ghana. This island nation boasts a high HDI score, a strong economy, and a robust government.

Followed closely is Ivory Coast with a high economic growth rate and a robust government. Ivory Coast is considered one of the best-governed countries in Africa. The next is Kenya, despite facing some political instability, Kenya has made significant strides in governance and is considered one of the best-governed countries in Africa. This is followed by Morocco, recognized as north Africa’s most competitive economy, Morocco boasts a high HDI score and a robust government. The tenth is Algeria, with the highest life expectancy in Africa and a high HDI score. Algeria is considered one of the most developed and well-governed countries in Africa.

President Tinubu’s Achilles heel remained his media handlers who – in words of Fela Anikulapo Kuti – called government magic by turning electric to candle. When citizenry complained of hunger, their response has always been, there is hunger all over the world; when we complained of insecurity and bandits their response is always, there is insecurity all over the world. When Nigerians groaned under the yolk of power outage in their homes for months after paying for darkness, their barefaced insensitivity and rudeness is always United Kingdom airports also have power outages.

When we agonised about the waffling and disappearance of Petro-dollars and how Qatar used the same oil money to build world global envy, their question remained constant: what’s the population of Qatar? Once they’re confronted with modern statistics on how Argentina is reducing inflation, their escapist response remained tone-deaf: Argentina president kisses his girlfriend in the public.

Nigerians have been growing accustomed to the deviant government until Tinubu’s government crippling economy policies eroded the purchasing power and threatening to exterminate the larger mass of the Masses. Thanks to the nation’s young turks and the left-wing ideologues of “Soro soke” (speak up generation) who are intent on holding the foot of the anti-people, heartless, cold-blooded and satanic government to the furnace of fire!
