Tinubu’s Tough Reforms Are Painful but Necessary, Says Ondo APC Chairman

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, has described President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing economic reforms as tough but unavoidable steps needed to secure Nigeria’s long-term stability and growth.

Speaking with journalists in Akure, Adetimehin likened the current economic situation to “birth pains,” arguing that the temporary hardship is part of a broader process aimed at rebuilding the nation after years of economic decline.

He praised President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a leader who emerged at a critical moment in Nigeria’s history to reset the country’s economic and institutional foundations. According to him, signs that the reforms are beginning to yield results are already visible across the country.

Adetimehin pointed to the gradual drop in food prices as evidence that the administration’s policies are having an impact. He noted that staples such as rice, which sold for as much as ₦120,000 per bag last year, are now selling for significantly less in many markets.

“President Bola Tinubu is a messiah sent by God to Nigeria at this critical time,” he said. “You can see his commitment through economic reforms and massive infrastructural development. Gradually, the prices of food items are coming down, and that tells us something is working.”

He urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive, stressing that reforms such as fuel subsidy removal, tax restructuring and other stabilisation measures were designed to place the economy on a sustainable path.

The APC chairman commended party supporters for their resilience despite current economic pressures, expressing confidence that Nigerians would soon experience the full benefits of the Tinubu administration’s policies.

Adetimehin also reaffirmed the party’s resolve to mobilise grassroots support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, saying the APC would continue to educate citizens on the goals and gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Addressing concerns about various support groups campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election in Ondo State, he clarified that the groups remain loyal to the APC and are operating peacefully under the party’s structure.

“The support groups are simply pressure groups working with the party. They are loyal to the APC, and I will not allow the party to be divided under my leadership,” he said.

He concluded by calling for unity among party members, stressing that internal cohesion is vital to sustaining the APC’s dominance and ensuring the success of President Tinubu’s programmes across the country.
