A 23-year-old South African woman, Botshelo Moimane, has lost her life in a heartbreaking case of gender-based violence allegedly carried out by her 31-year-old lover, Happy Thabo Aphane.
The incident occurred on August 19, 2025, when Aphane allegedly st@bbed Botshelo multiple times at Leeuwfontein, despite her being four months pregnant. She was discovered lifeless by community members who immediately alerted the police.
Police later confirmed that the suspect fled the scene but was tracked down and arrested on August 20 at Elandskraal. He was arraigned before Marble Hall Magistrates’ Court in Limpopo on Tuesday, August 26, to answer for the m8rder charges.
Disturbingly, records revealed that Botshelo had earlier reported the accused in May 2025 for assault with intent to cause grievous harm. However, she later withdrew the case, which saw Aphane released in July. Sadly, just weeks later, her life was cut short.
The matter has now been adjourned until September 9, 2025, for the accused to secure legal representation. He remains in custody.
