Hope was restored in Taraba State as troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, in a joint operation with DSS operatives, rescued Engineer Joshua Saleh, a lecturer at Taraba State University, from the hands of kidnappers.
Saleh was abducted on July 31, 2025, while travelling along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road in Wukari LGA. But in the early hours of Sunday, acting on credible intelligence, troops launched a coordinated search-and-rescue mission that covered multiple communities, including Kente, Sondi 1 and 2, Yaku, and the Warawa area.
According to Lt. Umar Muhammad, spokesperson for 6 Brigade, the mission turned combative when troops engaged the abductors in a gun battle. Outgunned and overwhelmed, the kidnappers abandoned the victim and fled into the bush. Thankfully, Engineer Saleh was rescued unharmed.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, hailed his men for their swift action, professionalism, and synergy with other agencies. He also reassured residents of the military’s firm commitment to keeping Taraba safe.
He called on the public to remain alert and always share useful information to help in the fight against criminal elements threatening peace in the state.
