Former US President Donald Trump has renewed his criticism of Nigeria, claiming that thousands of Christians are being killed in the country. He made the comments during a conservative radio interview on Friday, which was later highlighted by Fox News.
Trump, who previously placed Nigeria on America’s “Country of Particular Concern” list, accused the Nigerian government of not doing enough to protect Christian communities from violent extremist groups. He again hinted at the possibility of cutting off US aid to Nigeria if the situation does not improve.
During the interview, Trump also repeated his earlier warning that the United States could consider military action against Islamist militants responsible for the attacks. He described Nigeria as “a disgrace” and insisted Washington would stop “subsidies” if the government fails to act.
“They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it,” Trump said, adding that the US expects stronger action from Abuja.
The Nigerian government has previously rejected the genocide claims, insisting that the country is engaging the United States at the highest diplomatic levels to correct what it describes as misinformation.
