A Department of State Services (DSS) operative has reportedly opened fire on three residents of Karmajiji village in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, leading to the deaths of two individuals. The incident is said to have occurred on January 19, 2026.
The operative, identified as Ajayi Abayomi, is reportedly in hiding following the shooting. According to a police source, he has failed to honour an invitation to assist with the ongoing investigation. He had earlier told the police that the discharge of his pistol was accidental.
One of the victims, Musa Adamu, died a few hours after the incident. Another victim, Mallam Suleiman Salisu, later died on January 28 at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, due to injuries sustained. A third victim, Abdullahi Ahmed, is said to be in critical condition and receiving treatment.
A police source stated that the three men were going about their lawful activities when they were struck. The bullet reportedly first hit Musa Adamu, then passed through Suleiman Salisu’s abdomen before lodging in Abdullahi Ahmed’s left hand.
A family member of one of the victims confirmed the incident and expressed grief, calling for justice to be served. The family gathered at the hospital to retrieve the body for burial according to Islamic rites.
Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
