U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr., on Wednesday, paid a visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmad Bamalli, to enhance cooperation and strengthen cultural integration.
The envoy said the U.S. was committed to the relationships with Nigeria, to deepen it and strengthen it.
According to Mills, the best way to deepen this relationship is through a meeting like this where we can hear from each other.
“I look forward to hear from you on what you are doing to strengthen religious cooperation between communities, educational opportunities and work skills opportunities for your people.
“What the U.S. could be doing to develop more ties and what steps we could take to deepen our ties,” he said.
Responding, Bamalli lauded the U. S. Department of State for the opening of the America Space (Window on America) at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
Bamalli said the initiative would be a stepping stone for better opportunities between the United States, Zazzau Emirate Council and Kaduna State.
He noted that the Emirate Council has a long term relationship with the U.S. Embassy, adding that delegations from the embassy used to attend the end of Ramadan Durbar in Zaria.
“However that has stopped for some years due to insecurity. But we can say peace has returned to our communities.
“We, therefore, hope that members of the Embassy and other Diplomatic Corps will continue to attend our Sallah Durbar,” Bamalli said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the American Space (window on America), set up at the University aims to enhance educational opportunities, interaction and research development.
