UDUS Radiography Graduate, Basheerah Ojedeyi, Regains Freedom After Kidnappers Receive Ransom

Basheerah Ojedeyi, a newly inducted radiography graduate from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has been released from captivity weeks after being abducted on her way home. Her freedom reportedly came after ransom payment was made.

Ojedeyi was kidnapped on September 29, 2025, around 2:00 p.m. along the Felegu–Ibbi road in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State. Her abductors initially demanded ₦200 million before later reducing the ransom to ₦10 million after several rounds of negotiation. The kidnappers had also issued a one-week ultimatum to her family, threatening dire consequences if the ransom was not paid.

Her release was confirmed on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, by the National Association of Osun State Students, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto Chapter (NAOSS-UDUS), through a statement signed by its president, Adedamola Adam Oluwafisola, and general secretary, Olarinde Sodiq Opeyemi.

“We owe the good people of Nigeria an eternal gratitude and appreciation for supporting and hastening the release of Radiographer Ojedeyi Basheerah,” the statement read in part. “We pray that no Nigerian ever experiences such a traumatic ordeal again, and may God continue to watch over us all.”
