Ukraine Welcomes Mauritius’ Interest in Recovery Efforts

UKRANIAN Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba expressed his approval on Thursday for Mauritius’ interest in participating in Ukraine’s recovery efforts. This announcement followed his discussions with Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth in Port Louis.

‘Given Mauritius’ highly developed economy and business environment, we welcome its strong interest in taking part in the recovery of Ukraine,’ Kuleba said in a statement on X.

Kuleba also mentioned that both nations have agreed to start work on bilateral agreements to protect investments and prevent double taxation. He emphasised the importance both countries place on upholding fundamental UN Charter principles, including sovereignty and territorial integrity.

‘I am grateful to Mauritius for taking a principled stance in support of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, as well as for joining the Peace Summit communique,’ Kuleba added.

The discussions also covered strengthening cooperation in political dialogue, trade and investment, and Ukraine-Africa relations.

Kuleba’s visit to Mauritius marks the first-ever by a Ukrainian foreign minister and concludes his four-day Africa tour, which began on Sunday and included talks with leaders of Malawi and Zambia. This tour is Kuleba’s fourth visit to the 55-nation continent since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022, aimed at garnering support and countering increasing Russian influence in the region.
