The US Customs Service announced the collection of the new customs starting this Tuesday. Trump had announced the additional tariff of ten percentafter the Supreme Court declared most of its previous tariff policy null and void. He also announced that he wanted to increase the rate to 15 percentbut no corresponding decree has been signed so far.

The On Friday, the US Supreme Court declared most of the special tariffs introduced by Trump to be unlawful. The court based its decision on the fact that the emergency law used by Trump to impose the tariffs did not authorize the president to impose tariffs. This is the responsibility of the US Congresswho was not asked for this. The US customs authority then announced that it would no longer levy the special tariffs that Trump had introduced on this legal basis from Tuesday.

After the ruling, however, Trump announced new additional tariffs based on another law, which he also did not want to have voted on by the US Congress. Also he vaguely threatened further higher tariffs. Trump used the 1974 trade law for the new tariffs. According to its provisions, the measures expire after 150 days if the US Congress does not vote to extend them. Accordingly, the new tariffs that come into force this Tuesday are limited until July 24th. The law would allow 15 percent tariffs.
