Verydarkman Fires Back at Bwala: “Peter Obi Tried to Visit Benue But Was Blocked!”

Popular social media activist, Verydarkman, has taken a direct shot at Daniel Bwala, a presidential aide, over recent comments that questioned Peter Obi’s empathy regarding the Yelwata massacre in Benue State.

Recall that during an interview on Channels TV, Bwala had slammed Obi for criticising President Tinubu’s failure to visit Yelwata after over 200 people were killed by suspected herdsmen. Bwala further stirred the pot by claiming that Verydarkman, who had physically visited the community and shared harrowing footage of the aftermath, showed more empathy than Obi—sparking widespread reactions online.

But in a fiery response posted via his Instagram page, Verydarkman didn’t hold back. “Mr Bwala,” he began, “you said Peter Obi was not there and lacks empathy. Let me break it down.”

He clarified that Peter Obi had indeed planned to visit Benue earlier in April 2025, but was denied access by the state governor. “I’m not trying to support Peter Obi here,” he said, “but in April 2025, Peter Obi was stopped from going into Benue State by the governor…”

Verydarkman’s response, though blunt, captured the frustration many Nigerians feel about the politicisation of national tragedies. “Since Peter Obi and him people start the ADC thing, all of una just dey restless,” he added, referencing the recent political coalition moves by Obi and others. “Wike go talk today, you go talk tomorrow—and them never even give am presidential ticket yet.”

His words landed hard, not just because of their sharpness, but because they raised a critical question: When tragedy strikes, should we weaponize empathy in political debates—or focus on the lives lost and what must be done to stop future killings?

For many, Verydarkman’s rebuttal wasn’t just a defence of Obi. It was a callout of political hypocrisy—a reminder that, in moments of grief, scoring points should never come before the truth.
